Pure Water Paddlers Minutes of Meeting 4/13/05 The meeting was held at the Hallie Golf Course. We had some new people show up for this fourth meeting. Welcome to all newcomers. This will be our last indoor meeting this spring. All meetings will be held after a Wednesday evening paddle at the location of the paddle. We will resume indoor meetings again in the fall. The next meeting will be 5/11 at Paint Creek/Little Lake Wissota. There will be a paddle at 5:30 PM with a meeting afterwards, approx 7:30. Directions can be obtained from the website calendar. Please check out the new website design Dave Sorenson has been working with Jon to update our website and make it a little easier to view. They have been doing a wonderful job. Many thanks to both of you. A discussion was held regarding the Chippewa Falls Boat Show on May 1st, from 9:30 AM 4:00 PM. A volunteer list was sent around for those who wished to volunteer at our booth. If you wish to help out contact Elke Warner at ewarner@pressenter.com Some of the item that we will have to show at the booth are: Jeff will display his sea kayak Renee business cards & banner Patty will supply pens Ken/Renee photo album Available will be membership forms and an event calendar. We will also be raffling off a free membership and possibly a cooler with our logo on it. Mention was made of having stickers available with our logo to be given out as well. Upcoming paddles: 4/20 Our first evening paddle of the season as a group will be held on April 20th at 5:30 pm at the Mallard Resort on Lake Wissota. Directions: take Highway 178 north from Chippewa Falls approx 7 miles. There should be a sign for the Mallard Resort road. Glenn Felske will lead the trip. Everyone welcome. (All directions can be obtained through the website or feel free to contact the leader of the trip you are interested in). 4/23 Will be the Thornapple River Ken to lead this trip, meeting time is 10:00 AM on Highway J. 4/30 Jump River Jon to lead this trip, meeting at Farm & Fleet at 9 AM. 5/7 Black River Jon will lead trip but need to meet at his home at 11 AM. Will be about 2-3 hr trip, from Hatfield Dam to Pumphouse, some class II. 5/8 Mystery Paddle led by Jon. Currently destination unknown. Show up ready to paddle. 5/14 Brule Patty possibly to lead trip. May be camping so that the following day the White River can be paddled. Jeff to figure out camping/meeting arrangements. 5/21 S Fork Flambeau Glenn to lead. 5/27 30 Memorial Weekend Jeff is planning a trip to the Apostle Island with camping. Leaving sometime Friday and returning on Monday. Anyone is welcome to join him, please let him know as soon as you can. jgoss@pressenter.com 6/5 Namekagon Patty to lead. 6/18 St. Croix Tom James to lead. Event leaders Packet Glenn, Cheryl and myself are working on pulling together some information to make it easier for members who would like to lead a trip but are feeling intimidated by it. Included will be some basic guidelines for setting up a trip and the necessary items that should be included. I will try to put together the information and make it available for individuals to look at on the website (within the next couple of weeks) and will take any comments on fine tuning it as needed. PWP merchandise If you go to the website you can see some of the items available. Renee is taking orders, our deadline for the first order will be by May 1st. You can contact Renee at sebranek_kuester@yahoo.com Updating the charter I will attach another copy for members to look at. We are thinking of fine-tuning some of the wording. In some places it is pretty general. Some of the items discussed were the election of officers and voting procedures. Glenns Corner Glenn presented some additional information regarding hypothermia. It is that time of year. Thanks again Glenn for providing us with your wonderful knowledge and expertise. Our group has a membership with AWA (American Whitewater Association) they are combining with Cliff Bar to present (5) $500 grants to groups who wish to apply for River Safety Education. Ken is looking further into this to see if it is something we can do. Other EventsApril 22-24th there is the Spring Outdoor Adventure Expo held by Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis. They will have exhibitors and presentations. They will also be having a boat demo day from 3-8 PM at Lake Nakomis on April 21 (Thursday), and a canoe/kayak auction on April 23rd.
