Good Morning everyone, Since I was unable to attend the meeting, Patty was good enough to take the following minutes for me. Here is what was discussed: At the paddle there were 3 canoers and 4 kayakers including some new members (Katherine Schulz, Betty Briggs, Cheryl Gast and Jerry Wiliams). Welcome aboard everyone. At the movie "Without a Paddle" on 8/27 we had a great turnout of 21 members. Brenda reported on UW-Stout extending us an invitation to attend a sea kayak safety training course at their pool sometime this winter. She will be obtaining further details and report back to us. After this course, for those that attend, we would be able to rent their sea kayaks, wet suits, and any necessary equipment for future trips. Patty reported on a Wilderness First Aid training course to be brought to the Eau Claire area in the near future. Is costly at this time, but Stout also may have a comparable course available. Patty to research further on options for this. Renee mentioned Canoecopia to be held March 11-13,2005. It was suggested that those wishing to stay in Madison, stay at the Clarion hotel. If so, book soon, fills up fast. For those that missed the excitement at the paddle, here are some of the details. While out fishing before our paddle, our esteemed colleage, Don Bestul, unfortunately found a body floating on the edge of the lake above the dam. He contacted the Eau Claire PD who came a recovered the body. If you check out the website Jon Brutlag was able to take some picture of the excitement. The individual found appears to be a local person. On to lighter topics. Upcoming events: 9/15 Paddle to be held at Lake Hallie @ 5:30 PM 9/22 Paddle at little Lake Wissota - meet at the View - 5:30 PM 9/29 Paddle at Timber Terrace again - 5:30 PM 10/3 Paddle on the Red Cedar with Jon B as leader - he will be providing addition information. 10/10 Sunday - we are looking at haveing a potluck/meeting at the Lake Hallie Sportsmans Club from 2-6 pm. Depending on weather possibly a paddle. Looking at discussing the past years events and making a calendar of events for next summer. Anyone with ideas of places to go, pictures, things to discuss, please feel free bring them along. I will send out a new membership list to everyone this weekend. Need to finish updating for new members. Hope I covered everything. (Patty, if I missed something, please fill in. Thanks) Theresa |
